In the article, published January 14, 2026, International Mining announces the MESABI® MTMS, an industry-first solution specifically for heavy-duty, mobile applications operating in extreme environments. The rugged, high-performance system offers a solution that will allow fuel cells, battery packs, and hybrid solutions to thrive in extreme mining environments.
“Chilling systems this large are typically found in stationary industrial installations,” said Nick Takes, R&D Engineer at L&M. “Designing one to survive a mining vehicle’s operating loads and vibration levels is unprecedented at this scale. L&M is thrilled to set the standard for the industry in this way.”
Discovery Alert, a mining and energy news publisher based in Subiaco, Washington, also reported on the new innovation.
The article, “MESABI® Thermal Management System Revolutionizes Mining Equipment Cooling,” begins by highlighting how traditional cooling systems for electric or hybrid powertrains fail when used for mining applications, and how the MESABI design differs in its approach.
“This approach,” writes author Muflih Hidayat, “addresses a fundamental industry challenge where large-scale chilling systems, normally found in stationary industrial installations, must survive the operating loads and vibration levels characteristic of mobile mining vehicles.”
The MESABI MTMS thwarts these challenges using variable-speed thermal control, vibration and shock resistant design, structural protections against dust and debris, and more.
