Yankton, South Dakota– On October 1, 2026, L&M Radiator’s Yankton, South Dakota facility was awarded the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Employer of the Year.
The Governor’s Award recognizes exemplary employers, individuals, and community leaders who are helping build stronger, more resilient communities by expanding employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
“This recognition is especially meaningful to us because it reflects values that are central to who we are as a company,” said Katy Schlimgen, Human Resources Manager at L&M Yankton. “At L&M Radiator, we believe that embracing diversity, creating opportunities, and putting people first are essential to our success. We strive to foster an inclusive workplace where individuals of all abilities are welcomed, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
L&M Radiator partners with Ability Building Services and the Department of Labor to actively recruit talent with disabilities and connect them with the right job for their skill set.
“While we are honored to receive this award, we believe the true achievement is the workplace we continue to build together, one where every person is respected, every contribution matters, and every employee has the opportunity to succeed,” said Schlimgen. “This award is not just a reflection of where we are today, but a reminder of the standards we will continue to uphold as we grow. We remain committed to creating opportunities, strengthening our workforce, and ensuring that putting people first remains at the heart of everything we do.”
Schlimgen represented L&M Radiator in Pierre, South Dakota, as she accepted the Governor’s Award on behalf of L&M Radiator in Yankton. The Department of Human Services, the South Dakota Board of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the Statewide Independent Living Council sponsor the annual Governor’s Awards.
“We are proud to be recognized for these efforts and view this award as a reflection of the culture our employees help create each day,” said Schlimgen. “This achievement would not be possible without the dedication of our team members, the individuals and organizations who nominated us, and our frontline leaders who work every day to create an environment where people can grow, succeed, and feel valued. Their commitment to supporting our employees and living our values in their day-to-day actions is what truly makes L&M Radiator a great place to work.”
